The elusive legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar spent over an hour entertaining the finalists of the show Amul Star Voice of India (Star Plus) at her Peddar Road residence on Monday evening (November 19).
A keen follower of the show, Lata addressed the finalists –Harshit Saxena and Ishmeet Singh- very affectionately. As excited as she was in being the celebrity guest at the Grand Finale on November 24 in giving away the trophy to the winner of the reality musical talent hunt show, she kept reassuring the finalists that it wasn't the end of the journey for the one who lost the title of 'Voice of India'.
Producer director Gajendrra Siingh who was present with the finalists says, "I've yet to see Lataji as charged and enthusiastic about the finale as she was, when she was with Harshit and Ishmeet. She said her family will also be present for the finale. She has often expressed her views that she's not in favour of biased SMS voting by the public, but had agreed to be a part of the event only because she strongly believed that the show upheld the traditions of true music. It's a great honour and my life long ambition to have her endorse the show. I've been trying to get her on my show for the past 12 years..It's a dream come true".
He adds, "I even suggested to her that I would scrap SMS voting if she agreed to pick the winner. She thought for a minute, then smiled and said that she was so fond of both the singers that she couldn't make a choice between them."
What's more, a Lata Mangeshkar Signature Collection watch crafted in 18K Gold and studded with round brilliant cut diamonds, exclusively designed by Lataji will be gifted to the two finalists of Star Voice of India.
With Harshit and Ishmeet telling Lataji that their favourite male singers were Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi, she in turn picks her favourite number sung by the legendary singers. She also gave a list of few songs sung by her that she'd like to hear on the finale. She also told the boys, "Try singing an original composition, rather than pre-recorded Hindi film songs, that would bring out the best in you and only then can one judge your true talent".
Ishmeet remarked, "My heart is beating so fast..I can't believe she blessed us and gave us so many tips to be better singers and human beings." And Harshit ends, "Her blessings are precious, and I'm so thrilled to have become a finalist or I'd never have had the good fortune of spending time with her."
