I first became addicted to
MI5(Spooks) Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxset, known as Spooks in the UK, when it first appeared on A&E.
MI5(Spooks) Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxsetis an example of television at its finest.
MI5(Spooks) seriesgives us a fictional insider view of Britian's domestic intelligence division known as
MI5(Spooks) series, and we're not talking James Bond (anyway, he was MI-6).
MI5(Spooks) Seasons presents these people as patriots fighting to keep their country safe, but it's also not afraid to present the morally questionable side, as well -- not something you usually see on American television. In the US, when a show like
MI5(Spooks) Seasons is made it treats the players as heroes making a great sacrifice to keep the country safe, rarely as human beings who sometimes have to make morally questionable decisions, decisions that force them to question whether they are doing the right thing or not. Shows like
Alias Seasons 1-5 DVD Boxset and
24 Hours Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxset come close, but they are more thriller shows with thriller plots and violence. This show works in real-time, often using real-time events as catalyst for their plots.
What sets
MI5(Spooks) Box set apart from the likes of
Alias Seasons 1-5 DVD Boxset and
24 Hours Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxset is the human factor: the series focuses more on the human drama than it does the thriller elements.
Matthew MacFadyen is absolutely wonderful as Tom Quinn, who over time begins to wonder about the decisions he's had to make and the affect they've had on his life and those around him. Keeley Hawes as Zoe Reynolds, David Oyelowo as Danny Hunter, and Peter Firth as Harry Pearce are exceptional supporting players. Don't let the British setting keep you from watching this series. Unlike any show currently on television in America, based in America, this series reminds us there is still a war on terror and we're only moments
away from another disaster. It's edge-of-your-seat plotting and exceptional acting. I had never seen the Show
MI5(Spooks) Box setuntil I bought the Box set from work - I am so glad I did! I would have spent twice my money to own it.
cheap MI5(Spooks)DVD Boxset is phenomenal. The acting is excellent, the actors are exellent and the stories are amazing. It is so refreshing to finally be challenged in a tv series - and not be pandered to with lukewarm plots designed not to intimidate the squeamish. The jargon, technical familarity and thorough research that goes into each episode is reminiscent of the early
ER Seasons 1-13 DVD Boxset days - however, with less gore!
MI5(Spooks) 1-7 is the culmination of British Dramatic television, completely building on the excellent grounwork set by Cracker and The Knock. If you are at all interested in good drama with intelligent plotwork and a keen interest in espionage - definitely
cheap MI5(Spooks) Seasons 1-7 DVD Boxset is a must for your collection!
Two and a Half Men Seasons 1-6 DVD Boxsetis the perfect comedy series, so far.
Two and a Half Men Seasons 1-6 DVD Boxset is well written and truly funny on several levels. Sheen's comedy delivery is perfect, so the Charlie character is fun to watch. Cryer has a knack for making the audience enjoy and appreciate his character's failures and injuries. The kid character, Jake, marks the first time I can recall in which one feels no sympathy for a child that is not cute, that is plagued by hereditary stupidity, and who will always be a burden on society. Instead, he is funny. Imagine a modern day version of "The Odd Couple", with a kid added, and you've got a pretty good idea of what "Two and a Half Men" is all about.
Two and a Half Men Seasonsis frequently panned by television critics in Australia, and I can't, for the life of me, figure out why, since this is one of the funniest shows I have seen in years. The scripts are great and never fail to make me laugh (although, be warned, given that the main character is a chronic womanizer, many of the jokes are a bit off-colour),
but what really makes
Two and a Half Men Seasons stand out it its cast. It's not just the two leads, Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer, who make
Two and a Half Men Box set (although both fit perfectly into their respective roles, and often, just seeing the look on Sheen's face, is enough to get me chuckling), but also Holland Taylor (one of the funniest, and most underrated, actresses of all time) as Sheen and Cryer's self-absorbed and domineering mother, who steals every scene she is in, and Melanie Lynskey as Rose, Sheen's slightly-psychotic ex-girlfriend, who also happens to be one of the most surreal characters on prime-time television. If you haven't already seen an episode of this excellent series, I strongly recommend
Two and a Half Men Box setyou give it a try.
I hope the writers will be able to come up with new material and avoid the failure that eventually kills a lot of comedy shows-the eventual replacement of original humor with too much crudity.
