:: REMOTE CONTROL :: Synopsis
Featuring, the effervescent Supriya Pathak, Deven Bhojani, Mansi Parekh and Jay Soni, Remote Control is the story of the life of the Babulnaths - Babul (Deven Bhojani), Baari (Supriya Pathak), Bunty (Jay Soni), and Bubbly (Mansi Parekh). Every member of the Babulnath family has his or her own dreams and aspirations that depend largely on money.
However, they are all happy and content in their own world, till one day, when the presence of a television twists their lives around in a way that changes the dynamics of this otherwise ordinary family, forever.
What follows is an amusing and insightful look into the minds and hearts of middle-class households and their vulnerability to the ‘consumer craze’ that engulfs society today.
Says Supriya Pathak: “Remote Control has a razorsharp comic flavor that is heartwarming. My character Baari Babulnath is the heroine of the show in the true sense. She is an ideal wife and mother, and is the only one in the family who knows how to deal with sudden changes in life.”
Producer
J D Majethia says, “Remote Control takes a dig at television channels that play with the emotions of middle-class families. The serial takes viewers through an emotional roller-coaster ride touching their hearts.”
:: REMOTE CONTROL :: Synopsis
Babulnath
Played by: Deven Bhojani
Mr Babulnath is the head of the family. His parents called him Gotu, justifying his shape, friends
called him Babul, and wife calls him ‘O!’ or Suniye Na!
Babul is married to Baarmaasi for the past 21 years. A lovely, simple middle class couple that’s
been trying to make ends meet throughout their lives. Babul has managed to keep his family noncorrupt.
Babul is an accountant in a small private firm on a Rs 7,600 salary. He works religiously for 10
hours a day in office, and has never taken his family out to a restaurant for a meal, saying outside food causes ill health. But it’s obvious he wants to save every penny he can.
Baarmaasi
Played by: Supriya Pathak
Babul’s wife Baarmaasi is a cheerful lady. She is the one who takes all the decisions for the family. She has the skills of running the house all by herself, but creates the impression that Babul is the patriarch.
She is an ideal mother, an ideal wife and the most sensible and least confused family member.
Baarmaasi is a wonderful cook; she is cleanliness personified and a recycling specialist. Baari is one person who gets more thrilled to get the bubbles sheet of the TV packaging than getting a TV.
In her limited free time, Baari makes beautiful little artifacts from garbage -- old cardboard boxes, packaging that comes with any product… anything that would normally be thrown away in any other house, is grist to her innovative mill. She sells the little knick-knacks she makes to a lady called Miniben. Whatever she earns from those sales has been her only saving.
Baari is the heroine of this story in the real sense.
Bunty
Played by: Jay Soni
All of 19 years, Bunty is Babulnath and Baari’s first born. He is in the final year of studying
commerce. He loves his family dearly, but sometimes there are moments when he wishes he were born somewhere else. He is one member of the family with a constant urge to get something new, and keeps making demands, however subtly, every day. Most often, his demands get rejected, but he manages to come up with another one the next day.
Bubbly
Played by: Mansi Parekh
Bubbly is Bunty’s sister, 18 years old, and in the second year of college. Bubbly has the looks of
her mother and the ‘wisdom’ of her father, hence, is not a quick decision maker and more likely to get confused whenever there is a problem.
Bubbly is a ‘hyper’ girl – any little problem, and she loses her appetite, remaining restless till the
problem is solved, even nagging big brother in the process.
