Re: Gynecology
Gynaecology and Obstetrics is the branch of medicine that deals with women’s reproductive system. From infertility (which is a growing concern in the field of medicine) to catering to tumour in the reproductive system, the job of a gynaecologist is quite challenging and demands patience and persistence. "Obstetrics and gynaecology comprises the care of the pregnant woman, her unborn child and the management of diseases specific to women," explains Dr Shirish.N Daftary, who has been a practicing gynecologist and obstetrician for four decades. It deals with menstrual disorders, menopause, infections and maldevelopment of the reproductive organs, disturbances of the sex hormones, benign malignant tumors and the prescription of contraceptive devices. A branch of gynaecology also deals with infertility and utilises artificial insemination and in-vitro fertilizations.
