Benazir Bhutto (1953-2007), Pakistani political leader who was assassinated in December 2007 as she campaigned for a third term as prime minister. She served as prime minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1996. Bhutto was the first democratically elected female prime minister in any modern Islamic country.
