Sanjay Dutt’s days of freedom ended today once again when he was sent to Arthur Road Jail after surrendering before the TADA court in Mumbai.

After being out of jail for two months, Sanjay Dutt was back in jail today after he surrendered on receiving a copy of the judgement from a TADA court, which convicted him in the 1993 serial blasts case.

Dutt, sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment under the Arms Act for illegal possession of an AK-56 assault rifle and a pistol, was sent to Arthur Road jail in central Mumbai till arrangements are made to shift him elsewhere.

The 48-year-old actor had spent close to a month in jail, a major part of it in Pune's Yerawada prison, after being sentenced on July 31 but had been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court until he received a copy of the judgement.

Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said he would advise the prosecuting agency, CBI, to appeal against Dutt's acquittal under the stringent Terrorism and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA).

"After reading in detail the judgement copy, the agency will decide whether to appeal in the Supreme Court against Dutt's acquittal under TADA," Nikam told reporters outside the high security court.

Reports have it that Dutt’s lawyer will now file bail plea in Supreme Court. However, Dutt will have to spend at least a week in jail before the bail application comes into the table of the apex court.
