Celebrating Raksha Bandhan with TV stars

It's Raksha Bandhan. And our busy stars are making sure they get some free time for their brothers and sisters.

    Divyanka Tripathi

"I am taking an off on Rakhi. I have a little brother who studies. I will fly to Bhopal on Saturday and stay with them for a day and then fly back the next day. It is a special day for both of us and especially for me because I get less time to be with them. But I will get a chance to spend time with them so I am happy."

    Sharad Malhotra

"I will surely take leave on Saturday. I want to go for rakhi in Kolkata which is my home town and my sister is there. I have not decided what to give her but every year I try to be with her on this day. Because of this I get a chance to meet my parents too. I have not met them for many days and will have nice time with all of them."

I hate puddles and traffic on rainy days: Divyanka Tripathi

    Divyanka Tripathi
    Q. Do you like rainy season?
    A. I really love rain season but not in Mumbai. I love it when it is raining in my hometown, Bhopal or in Lonavala or in any other place which is surrounded by greenery, not congested and which is free of pollution and traffic.

    Q. What’s the one thing which you love about this season?
    A. The color of the mountains, trees and everything changes in this season and I just love the scenic beauty of nature.

    Q. What is the one thing that you hate about rainy season?A. I hate puddles and traffic on rainy days.

    Q. What do you miss the most watching the heavenly shower?
    A. I miss the pakodas prepared by my mummy.

    Q. How do you like to spend your day when it’s raining heavily?A. I generally like to spend rainy days with my friends and family members. I love to go for a long drive especially when I am in Bhopal.

    Q. Rain has always been associated with romance. What’s your opinion on the same?
    A. Definitely it is associated with romance. But I think that, it is not only your lover with whom you can enjoy the season. It’s also your family members or friends with whom you can get together and enjoy.

    Q. Which is your favorite song picturized on rain?
    A. My favorite song on rain is Rim jhim rim jhim, bheegi bheegi ruth main...from 1942 – A Love Story.

    Q. What do you generally dress up while moving out on a rainy day?A. Actually I am a typical Indian and I like to be with traditional dresses but while going for holidays I wear track pants et al.

    Q. Which dish do you cherish eating?
    A. I love chats without spice and chocolates which I am avoiding now-a-days. There is one dish known as Daal bati which is amazing to eat and I just love that.

    Q. Any special memory relating to this season?
    A. Actually we had a car and whenever our family has to go out in rainy days, the car had to get stuck in puddles and we had no other option then to get out of the car and push it.

And one day our car got stopped and as usual we got down of the car and started pushing it when all the people who were passing by us, joined in our efforts to push the car. We enjoyed very much on that day.

    Divyanka: I can't show skin

Small screen’s pretty woman Divyanka Tripathi seems to have set her agenda for her Ahmedabad trip.

Unlike busy celebs on a whirlwind trip to the city, Divyanka has kept time off her schedule for her sightseeing cum shopping. The Banoo Main Teri Dulhan girl confesses that she wants to check out, “the Gandhi Ashram. Even your airport is awesome. I am a foodie and shopaholic. So, I’ve got definite plans to pick up things, ethnic stuff and sample Gujarati food.”

Working in a prime time daily for two years can’t have been easy. But the ever-smiling Divyanka says she hasn’t been bored so far. “See, my character has undergone many changes. There are times when I do feel low but there are ups and downs in life. I just go and perform in a different way. I am glad that the reincarnation episode took place in the show, otherwise it would have been impossible to play the same character till now,” says Divyanka who had tried her hand in a reality show Say Shava Shava but had to quit due to her low blood pressure problem.

Bhopal girl Divyanka doesn’t believe in taxing her days by overwork. While a lot of youngsters juggle two-three prime time shows, she claims that she’s happy doing one. “I don’t have the time to sign another project. And even if I take up more work, I don’t think I will be able to do justice to the shows.”

She also has no intentions of moving on to films immediately either. “When everyone from the TV industry is going to Bollywood, I don’t want to go that way. So many top Bollywood stars are doing television, I’d rather be like them and continue doing TV,” she laughs out. One thing that she just “can’t do” is wear “skimpy clothes” or “show skin.”

Harsh camera lights seem to have left her flawless skin untouched. What does she do to keep herself glowing? “I use only home-made remedies and ayurvedic cream. I remove make-up with cleansing milk and then clean my face with a face wash. This helps me to keep my skin in a good condition.”

Has fame changed her as a person? Is the Bhopal girl a national celebrity with attitude? “Not really. I think people don’t know me well if they feel I behave like a star. I play pranks on fellow actors, eat street food and know how to unwind. It’s only when people ask for autographs that I realise that they know me. Fame hasn’t gone to my head at all, even if I am famous,” she grins.
Now where have we heard that before?

I can’t stand people who wear a lot of make – up
    Kamya Punjabi

    Define fashion?
Fashion lies in the comfort level, confidence and the way one carries him/herself. You should even feel confident wearing a sari in a night club; that is what fashion is. You body language plays an important role in fashion.

    Who chooses your clothes?
I choose them myself. I rarely pick clothes of other’s choice. I am very moody in my choices. Sometimes I like wearing casual western clothes and sometimes I prefer looking like a sati savitri.

Do you like to accessorise yourself?
Not at all. The only accessory I wear is a watch. Sometimes I wear hoops.

Is there any particular brand that you prefer?
Not really. Brands don’t matter to me. I just wear what I like. I have a lot of branded clothes as well as unbranded clothes.

What is your favorite destination for shopping?
I am a shopping freak. The places where I can shop like a maniac are Dubai, Bangkok, China. In Mumbai, I like shopping from a few boutiques.

Which are the clothes that make you feel comfortable?
A pair of jeans with a t-shirt or a track pant with a gunjee makes me feel most comfortable.

    Who is your favourite designer?
I don’t have any favourite designer. Actually, I am not really a dressy person, so I don’t think much about the designers and all. But I like Reza’s designs. He is the one who has designed my clothes for award functions and serials. He gives amazing fits and style. Since he has my measurements, I just have to brief him on the phone and he makes exactly what I want from him.

Any particular colour that you like to see in your wardrobe?
I have a lot of white, black and red colours in my wardrobe.

A must have in your purse?
Credit cards, lip balm and lip gloss.

What are the make-up products that you prefer?
I don’t like to wear make - up and I can’t even stand people who wear a lot of make - up. I avoid wearing make – up even when my skin is looking bad.

    A fashion tip
    Just be yourself.

    A make- up tip
Avoid wearing too much of make – up and be natural.

Sharad Malhotra goes the Akshay Kumar way...

Sharad Malhotra jumped from the 2nd floor of a building and landed into a moving truck amidst high drama for Banoo Main Teri Dulhann. Get the details right here on Telly Buzz.

Zee’s Banoo Main Teri Dulhann is entering its best phase wherein Amar and Divya join hands to seek revenge against Sindoora. The highpoint of the episode on September 9th will be that Amar who falls from the 10th floor of a multi-storey building will get flashes of his past-life as he falls!!

Amar who was beaten black and blue by Sindoora’s henchmen will fall from the building, but will eventually drop into a moving truck. Sharad Malhotra who shot for the sequence without using a duplicate is a happy man today, but he does confide that he was feeling very jittery when he shot for the episode. “I jumped from the 2nd floor of the building, but in the serial, we show that Amar jumped from the 10th floor”, quips Sharad.

Sharad feels that the usage of a body double here would not have given a realistic feel to the scene. “The most scary part was that I had to jump from the building and land into a moving truck below. So this needed me to be very sharp and timing was the key here. Our action master taught me the jump and this helped me a lot”, quips the actor.

On the mental preparation needed for the scene, Sharad states “I had to be at ease mentally. I rehearsed for the scene 3-4 times; I was very jittery mainly because I am scared of heights. I also have the Vertigo problem which makes my head swing when I stand at a height. But all’s well that ends well, as I managed to do the scene with cables tied over me. Now that, I am done with it, I can say that I had great fun”.

Sharad Malhotra took few blows on his body in the fight that ensued before the fall. “I had tube lights hit on my chest, bottles broken on my head and even a hit with a hockey stick on my knees. I would like to mention my director here, Sanjay Ghosh who was very much concerned about my safety while on shoot. The unit took all the precautions needed, and I escaped with just minor scratches and a sprained hand”, avers Sharad as he laughs.

When asked about the phase ahead, wherein he gets up screaming Sindoora’s name the actor states, “There is much more to it. You need to wait and watch”.

Kudos to the brave Sharad Malhotra for giving realistic punches to his scenes!!

The dashing Mohit Mallik talks about his life, his likes, and the one woman he would love to kill on screen and much more...

One thing you have always craved for: Success, more wealth and prosperity. Basically I want to be happy in life.

You take on Reality Shows: Its good money and fame. It’s just that one needs to choose the best.

Most Expensive Gift you ever bought for someone: Well, I once got a very expensive perfume for my mom. It was expensive for me at that time as I did not have that much money as I have today.

The Bollywood actress you would ask for date: Bipasha Basu

You are fussy about: I love to choose my clothes. I will always want a perfect match of jeans and T-shirt or suit.

Phase of life you like the most: Present phase where I am getting good work satisfaction.

One Embarrassing Moment you have had: Once when I was shooting day and night for Pari Hoon Main, I looked a zombie and was totally drained out. After a shoot sequence, instead of walking into my vanity van, I entered a van which was of a totally different unit who were shooting at the same Filmcity. I sat down when few ladies came in and were puzzled to see me. I asked them whether they were new entries, and only then did I know that I entered the wrong van…

Saagar-Vidya Or Amar-Divya: Well, I would go for Saagar and Vidya because they were my real brother and bhabhi. I am connected to Amar and Divya now because of their reincarnation, but we are not of the same family.

The Best end for Sindoora Singh will be: It will be great if I could kill her. I really don’t know how I will kill her, can be an accident or I could shoot her. But I would always want to make it interesting (grins)

One thing you want to change in yourself: I want to take life easy and need to think less.

Good boy Or Bad boy Image: As an actor, I prefer doing anything as far as I am happy doing it. I have played a good boy, bad boy, romantic roles etc, so it does not matter.

Favorite Hangout Place: Inorbit Mall and Vitria Mall.

Mohit Malik, his sisters and beau Aditi Shirwaikar (not the aditi in BMTD) narrowly escaped the Delhi blasts that shook the entire nation last Saturday..

Mohit Malik and his beau Aditi Shirwaikar were in Delhi last Saturday when terror struck the Capital city.

The couple had taken a break from their shooting schedule to be with Mohit’s family in Delhi. “I dropped my four sisters and Aditi at the GH-1 market place and left just 10 minutes before the blasts started. But they were a witness to the whole blast and I thank God that they escaped unhurt”, says a horrified Mohit.

Aditi Shirwaikar is equally shocked as she recollects the whole incident. “The dust bin where the bomb was placed was right opposite the shop we were in. We saw the explosion before us, we ran out of the shop. Mohit gave me a call as he got to know of the blast, and asked us to get out of the place. We ran to the exit and heard another explosion which took place in the other exit at Meena Bazaar. If we had taken that exit instead of the one we took, we would not have survived”, says an emotionally disturbed Aditi.

“It was a horrifying experience and I just don’t want to think about it. It was really scary and I thank God for saving me and Mohit’s sisters. But it was so disturbing to see the bodies and blood out there. It gave a numb feeling all over; I came back to Mumbai and did not go out of my house for two days, it really took a while before I got back my will power”, adds Aditi.

Sindoora will finally die in Dulhann

Here’s something which the viewers of Dulhann (Zee TV) have been waiting for long. Sindoora’s (Kamya Punjabi) evil deeds will finally come to an end soon.

The latest episodes show Sindoora losing her cool; she gets impatient and finally decides to kill Amar and Vidya. But as per the prediction of an astrologer, Amar or Sindoora, either one has to die, so who will die here remains a big mystery for the viewers.

We asked Kamya herself, who said her character would die soon. But she warned that Sindoora wasn't the type who would go easily, and much would have to happen before she would die.

“The death sequence of Sindoora will be shot in Banaras, but before that she will have to go through a number of things," Kamya said. "she’ll get trapped in fire and many other things would happen.”

It was in the last birth that Sindoora succeeded in killing Sagar and Divya, but this will however not be the case this time.

So is there a possibility that this time Sindoora would take rebirth and comeback in Amar-Vidya’s life?

“I don’t think anything of that sort would happen," Kamya said, "but this is television, so you never know! It depends upon the viewers too whether they want Sindoora to come back or not.”

To settle the matter, we asked producer Shyam Bhattacharya, who refused to even concede that Sindoora would die at all: “All I can say is that after this death sequence, there are amazing tracks which will come up”.

Divyanka Tripathi of Vidya fame also kept us guessing. She says, “According to a babaji, one of them will surely die, he also predicted that if Sindoora dies, then Amar-Vidya would not be happy together and if Amar dies, then obviously it’ll be worse. So who will die, still remains a mystery”.

Asked what she wanted, she said: "There has been enough of negativity, I think Sindoora should die."

So that settles it then. Unless of course, Sindoora has her third avatar.

    Serials back on track

Its good news for serial lovers. Striking film and TV workers are back at work as most of their demands have been met. The strike was called off last evening after the FWICE signed a MoU with the producer’s union. Except for the demand that foreigners not being permitted to work in the industry all other demands have been met. But it has been reported that if a foreign crew is hired to shoot in India then a few of the industry’s members will have to be included in the team. It has also been decided that neither a TV actor nor a worker will work beyond 12 hours.

According to Film and TV Producers Guild vice-president Dheeraj Kumar, work and shootings resumed at around 8 pm last night. Says Kumar, "There were issues regarding member-to-member working (no non-members of the FWICE should be used by members), shift timings and payments for longer hours. The revised wages had been agreed to 10 months ago but they accepted the terms and signed them today. It is a clear sign of the solidarity in the industry that the three producers' associations and the workers' association sat down to find a solution for the benefit of the industry."

With shooting having commenced for most serials and reality shows its good news for couch potatoes as there is no stopping their favourite soap.

The heart throb of millions, Sharad Malhotra, shares his passions and stress busters, the way he relaxes after a day of hard work and much more...

    What are you passionate about?
I am passionate about my work.

    What fires up your passion?
When I probably read my fan mails, or when I see a smile on my mom's face after she's seen me do a good job.

What do you normally do as a way of relaxation after a long day of shoot?I go out for a long drive with my friends or I catch up with a nice movie or dinner. If I am really tired, then I relax by sitting by the seaside.

    What's your stress buster?
There is no particular stress buster as such, but sometimes when I am tired after a long shoot and my mom calls me up or I hear my niece laugh on the phone, it relieves my stress a lot. Something that soothes me is a big stress buster for me.

You think shopping eases your stress?
Yes I enjoy shopping. I usually go alone and randomly pick up clothes for myself. I do believe that retail therapy is stress busting, but when you get the bill after shopping, it adds to your stress (laughs).

    How do you chill out?
For me chilling out time is always when I am not shooting. I get up at around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, have lunch and then plan out something with friends, maybe hang out at some nice place with something nice to eat. I usually avoid calls when chilling out.

    What are your Hobbies?
Marshal arts and traveling. I have recently started to learn horse riding too.

If given a choice to make a career out of your hobby or passion, what would you choose?
Well, I am passionate about whatever I do. And like I said, I am very passionate about my work. Meeting my fans, seeing a smile on my mom's face drives me to work harder on my passion.

What are your priorities in life?
My family is my biggest priority. Initially when I came to Mumbai it was work, but slowly I realize that there is nothing without family. You might be the most successful man on earth but if you don't have your family to share your success with, you are no one. Such success is worthless.

Do you consider exercising as a good stress buster?
I love exercising. I have been regularly working out in the last couple of months and have even appointed my own personal instructor.

Who is your biggest energy booster?
    My mom.

Divyanka and Ali to host 4 2 Ka 1
Producer Bonnie Jain of 4 2 Ka 1 has kept his promise of bringing the most popular actors from TV to the show. It can’t get bigger than Rakhi Sawant, Shakti Kapoor, Kashmeera Shah, Krishna Abhishek, Mika, Khayali.

And now it has been confirmed that two hot and happening actors will host the show. The beautiful and charming Divyanka Tripathi and Ali Asgar have been signed on as hosts.

Says a source, “Since Ravi Kissen couldn’t give his dates to the show the production house decided to rope in a new pair. So they zeroed down on Divyanka Tripathi of Dulhann fame and Ali Ashgar. It is to be remembered that Saakshi Tanwar and Ravi had hosted Yeh Hai Jalwa along with Smriti Irani and this time the production house wanted Ravi and Saakshi but Ravi couldn’t take up the offer due to his prior commitments.”

When contacted Ali refused to divulge any details and said, “I can’t comment on anything.” And Divyanka remained unavailable for comment.

Hope the Divyanka-Ali jodi creates the required magic.

After Sindoora’s numerous wicked plots, it’s finally time to rejoice for Amar (Sharad Malhotra) and Divya (Divyanka Tripathi) on Banoo Main Teri Dulhan as the vamp of the show, Sindoora, has finally died.

A show without a vamp – now that’s a first on Indian telly. Won’t it affect the TRPs?

“Definitely we will soon have a negative character in the show but we haven’t thought about that now. Its only recently that Sindoora has died so presently the story line is focusing on the relationship between Amar and Divya on one side and Bharat and Aditi on the other,” says Pradeep, the show’s supervising head.

Mohit Malik, who plays Bharat, believes that Sindoora’s absence will definitely affect the show as after her exit all the masala has gone.

“Sindoora is what Dulhan is all about… She should come back as her character is very important. I personally feel viewers would love to see her back,” says Mohit, “Conflicts hi nahi honge toh logon ko mazaa kya aayega.”

So who should then replace Sindoora considering she has been killed in the show?

“I think the most expected baddie in the show presently can be Sindoora’s sister Chandra because other characters who are playing positive are way too nice and therefore the viewers won’t like it if they turn negative,” says Mohit.

Sharad and Divyank entertain Hong Kong

Television's most loved couple Sharad Malhotra and Divyanka Tripathi recently performed in Hong Kong for the Zee Nite...Read to know more about the duo's experience...

As Zee TV celebrates Zee Nite in Hong Kong, the audience gets to see television’s most loved couple, Sharad Malhotra and Divyanka Tripathi, performing together on stage.

We caught up with Sharad, who was on a one-day break from shooting to spend time with his mother, to know more about his performance. Recollecting his experience he says, “I had a fabulous time at the Zee Nite event. My energy level always doubles up when I get up on the stage for a performance. My entry was the most amazing part of the entire act. The lights were turned off and the modified Shahenshah dialogue, ‘Rishtey mein toh hum Star lagte hain. Naam hai Sharad Malhotra’ was played. The audience was completely taken by surprise as I was present in the same crowd. They identified me only when the spotlight hit.”

Sharad danced a solo to Bachna Ae haseeno. He also performed a duet with Divyanka to the numbers ‘Pehla nasha’, ‘Pehli nazar mein’, ‘Teri aur’ and Sharad’s favorite ‘Bakhuda’.

Although Divyanka was suffering from a severe back pain, she too rehearsed a lot and sounded very exhilarated about her performance as she says, “I could not dance much as I was suffering from a severe back problem. I still managed to put in my best, though. I performed on the solo Pankudiyan ye gulab ki. On public demand, I also sang the song and this was my first live performance. The audience response was amazing and encouraging.”

Apart from the couple, also seen on stage were Harpreet and some of the SRGMP contestants. The Zee Nite will air sometime next month in South East Asia.

    Bad back gets Divyanka down

Divyanka Tripathi - Vidya in Banoo Main Teri Dulhan - has been laid low with a slipped disc. And she says she has tried many remedies without relief.

“It started in April when I got a spasm in my shoulder due to over- stress” says Divyanka. After this she was advised by her doctor to rest for a couple of days. Unfortunately, the actress couldn't take a break then and was shooting for Dulhan. It took a whole month, says Divyanka, for her to find the space to finally take some time off and give her battered body a break.

Television has one of the most manic work cultures and six-day 14-hour schedules are the norm for busy actors.

Divyanka says she was unsure that a small thing such as a back spasm could affect her health to the extent it then did. So she went for another test.

“In June when I went for MRI, I was told that my pain was from a slipped disc” says the star. But even this didn’t or rather couldn’t stop her from work as being a critical part of a daily needs a lot of shots.

As her condition tormented her, Divyanka tried a range of remedies.Initially she chose physiotherapy with allopathic medication. However that didn’t cure her completely and she switched to another doctor who, she says, wasn’t particularly good. Then she decided to give Neuropathy a go.

“In Neuropathy, they apply acupressure to the affected nerves” explains Divyanka, “Neuropathy gave me relief for a period but the pain aggravated when I had to do some specific sequences”.

For the last week, Divyanka has been trying good old Ayurveda. Asked if this had improved her condition, she said: “Ayurveda takes time, but hopefully it will cure me”.

The actress wears a belt around her waist while shooting, which she uses even when she’s giving her close-ups.

So how does she manage to shoot despite her pain?

“It's all work, life doesn’t stop!” says the Dulhan.

Here's wishing Divyanka a speedy recovery!
